To dance tango just listen to the music and let it tell you what to do
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, renowned milonguera Rita Caldas has been dancing for over a decade.
Former Geologist, Rita is now a Tango and Argentinian folklore teacher and choreographer and Hatha Yoga instructor.
Before discovering tango in 2004, Rita trained and worked as a classical ballet dancer for 10 years. She participated in operas like Aida and Guillerme Tell, staged at the São Carlos National Theatre in Lisbon. Aside from ballet, she danced other dances like Salsa, Kizomba, Belly Dance and Funky, among others.
Since 2009 she has been working around Europe as a Tango teacher and Dj, giving workshops and shows. In 2008 she met Vasco Martins with whom she worked for 7 years have had the chance to teach and perform in several tango festivals, schools, and milongas. She also worked and collaborate with other dancers.
In 2009 she became part of the organizing team of Lisbon Tango Festival and in 2010 she organized a Tango Marathon in Lisbon.
Rita is also a geologist, although she now works full time as a tango and yoga instructor, in Stockholm, where she moved in 2016.
Most recently Rita started working with Jorge Talquenca with whom she already had the pleasure of having performed in Paris, Vienna, Brzeg and Stockholm.
Rita uses the principles of yoga throughout her teaching in order to develop a more stable axis and a deeper knowledge of each one’s body, always emphasizing the importance of using the floor and listening to the music. Her motto is “When you dance listen to the music, let the music run through your body, speak with your feet and draw your emotions on the floor”.
